Dr. Shi-Bin Li did his bachelor in Pharmacy in South-Central University for Nationalities and master in neuropharmacology in Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Then he received PhD scholarships from China Scholarship Council and Collaborative Research Center of Heidelberg University for his PhD study in Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research and Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim in Germany. Shi-Bin defended for his PhD successfully in July this year and obtained his doctor degree from Heidelberg University. During his PhD work, Dr. Li firstly established electrical field potential recording system in freely moving mice in PD Dr. Georg Khr’s lab, and then he focused on dopaminergic modulation of synaptic plasticity and neural network activity. He found activation of D4Rs modulates apical and basal synapses in dorsal hippocampus differentially. Furthermore, neural oscillatory activities during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep onset after administration of D4R agonists were also altered. In the classical fear conditioning experiment, he found that
pretreatment of D4R agonists did not change the performance of mice. His observations suggest that D4R mediated synaptic plasticity is unlikely implicated in the fear memory formation in the fear conditioning paradigm. He also has experience in visual discrimination learning and inhibitory avoidance training.
