个人简介:

Cherry obtained her PhD degree in cognitive psychology at Tufts University. Before joining the Special Education and Counselling department at EdUHK, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences at The University of Hong Kong. Her interests cover various aspect of learning and communication. Her past work has used the ERP method to examine the neural correlates of visual word processing and language learning among multilingual populations.

报告内容:

In Chinese character reading, phonological regularity and consistency are two distinct measures of orthography-to-phonology mapping. The sensitivity to phonological regularity and consistency in Chinese characters reflects phonological access in reading and influences naming performance. In this talk, I will review some ERP findings that suggest different time courses and neural bases of regularity and consistency effects among native and non-native Chinese users. Regularity was also found to interact with other psycholinguistic variables in visual character processing, such as lexical frequency and age of acquisition. We will discuss how cross-language comparisons can be used to learn about the language learning system and Chinese character processing.
