个人简介：

Senior research scientist (data science) in ETS; Yunshan Visiting Chair Professor in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Graduated at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, had taken the postdoctoral job at Sapienza University of Rome, the Humboldt Fellowship at Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany, and the British Academy of Sciences Visiting Fellowship at University of Edinburgh in UK; and a faculty successively in University of Hong Kong and Haskins Laboratories, Yale University.

Research interests include: evolutionary linguistics, computational simulation, complex systems, psychology, data science and machine learning. Has published over 60 journal papers in many interdisciplinary and linguistics journals, such as PNAS, Language, Proceedings of Royal Society B, and so on.

报告内容：

Talk 1: Data Science in Psychology Research

Describing data science approach, and providing two example studies in psychology that apply this quantitative approach: an eye-tracking experimental study investigating the effects of individual differences on online sentence reading behaviors; the second study collects social media language and investigates whether linguistic features in these data can help predict individual social meida user's psychological traits.

Talk 2: Computational Modeling in Evolutionary Linguistics Research

Describing computational simulation approach, and providing one example study in evolutionary linguistics. This study designs an agent-based, unsupervised learning model to address the relative importance of individual perceptual constraints and socio-cultural transmissions to linguistic color categorization.
