The Institutesof Psychological Science of Hangzhou Normal University is a new research institution established in 2016. It was originally the Department of Psychology, which was established in 2000, with a second-level master's degree in 2003 and a first-level master's degree in 2010. There were two majors for undergraduates: Applied Psychology and Special Education. In 2012, it was named Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Cognitive Impairment Assessment Technology. It was also rated as the first-class discipline (category A) in Zhejiang Province in 2016. Then, the Zhejiang Branch of Counseling and Research on Marriage, Family, Children and Adolescents, was established in 2017 and affiliated to Psychological Crisis Intervention Research Center of Colleges in Zhejiang. At present, four distinctive disciplines have been formed: basic psychology, cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, and educational psychology & school psychology.
Currently, we have 40 full-time teachers and 15 professors. One of them has acquired the title of Qianjiang scholar in Zhejiang, and another one has received the Government Special Allowance of the State Council. In terms of the academic backgrounds of our staff, 90.2% of them have received a doctorate degree, and 61% have overseas research experience. All core members of disciplines and young teachers have doctoral degrees. Besides, we also have a full-time foreign professor. Moreover, academic achievements of our employees are fruitful. Fifteen of them have published more than 10 SCI/SSCI articles, and 21 teachers have presided over national projects. Thirteen of the young teachers (under 38 years old) have presided over national projects and have great potentials for achievements in the academic field.
Over the past five years, we have undertaken 40 national-level projects with a funding of 15.51 million yuan (RMB) and 33 provincial and ministerial-level projects with a funding of 4.043 million yuan. It has published 229 SCI/SSCI papers, including 31 first-level journal articles and 144 papers in core journals.
The Institutes of Psychological Science has established a complete psychological research platform, including magnetic resonance imager (MRI) laboratory, electroencephalogram (EEG) laboratory (compatible with MRI), transcranial magnetic stimulator (TMS) laboratory, near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) imaging laboratory, eye movement laboratory and behavioral laboratory. In fact, we are the first unit that have installed research-specific MRI in affiliated hospitals in China. We correspondingly own the first unit in Chinese hospitals that have combined 3T research-specific MRI equipment with interdisciplinary research team.
Our goal is to develop a first-class scientific research center, a talent training center, a social service center and an international exchange center of brain and psychological science in Zhejiang Province and in China.
