视觉文字加工和知觉学习机制

   人脑视觉系统可以极其高效地对大量视觉信息进行灵活、特异的加工。本研究小组主要探讨视觉物体(特别是文字)加工的神经系统的功能组织。近期主要关注文字加工不同层次的神经表征,以及该神经系统如何提取和计算文字的字形、正字法、语音和语义信息。此外,本小组还考察经验对视觉物体加工神经系统功能专门化的塑造作用。我们将采用心理物理、功能磁共振成像、脑电、神经心理学、颅内电生理、经颅磁刺激等多种技术,研究对象包括健康成年人、不同发育阶段的儿童以及阅读障碍患者。本小组现有成员主要包括:翁旭初、何生、方方、Carl Gaspar、王治国、张烨、邵涵钰、赵静和陈纬等。


Processing of visual words and mechanisms of perceptual learning

The human visual brain is extremely efficient in processing vast amount of input information, and is very versatile and highly specialized at the same time. The cognition group investigates the functional organization of the visual brain, with an emphasis on neural systems involved in processing visual words. Our current goal is to address the hierarchical neural representation of visual words and how the visual word form, orthographic, phonological, and semantic information is extracted and computed in this system. In addition, we are also investigating how experience modifies the functional specialization of the neural system for visual object processing. Multiple technical approaches are adopted including psychophysics, fMRI, EEG, neuropsychology, intracranial recording, TMS, etc. Our research subjects include both healthy adults and children at different levels of developmental stages, as well as patients with reading impairments. Currently, the members of this team include Xuchu Weng, Sheng He, Fang Fang, Carl Gaspar, Zhiguo Wang, Hanyu Shao, Jing Zhao, and Wei Chen.
